Where D&D Beyond shines

D&D Beyond is Wizards of the Coast's official D&D platform. If you want the rulebooks in digital form, a character builder that knows every class feature and spell, and campaign tools for sharing content with your group, nothing else is as complete for D&D specifically. Its mobile app shows your character sheets and downloaded books, and lets you roll from the sheet.

Where Rollune shines

Rollune starts where character building ends: the moment the dice hit the table. The dice grid, the modifier wheel and the Roll button never leave the screen, so 2d20kh1 + 5 or a Fireball's 8d6 takes a couple of taps, and anything you repeat becomes a preset.

It also plays well beyond D&D. Custom dice sizes and keep/drop modes handle dice pools, percentile systems and homebrew, and characters stay deliberately light: six abilities and the basics, enough for stat-linked rolls when you're running NPCs or a one-shot in another system.

Then there's the part D&D Beyond doesn't try to do. The soundboard layers rain, wind and music under your rolls, theme packs restyle dice, screens and audio for the campaign, and all of it lives on your device, so a basement with no signal is not a problem.

Choose Rollune if…

  • You play mostly in person and want rolls to be instant.
  • You want ambience and effects without another app.
  • You play several systems, or homebrew.
  • You want a free app that works fully offline.

Choose D&D Beyond if…

  • You want official D&D books in digital form.
  • You want a builder that automates every 5e feature and spell.
  • Your group shares purchased content in a campaign.

Using both together

They don't compete for the same job. Build your hero in D&D Beyond, copy the six ability scores into Rollune (or use our free character sheet creator), then keep Rollune open during play for quick rolls, presets and background sound.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Still curious? The app's help section and store listing have more.

Is Rollune a replacement for D&D Beyond?

Not for official rules content: D&D Beyond sells and hosts the official D&D books and automates 5e character building. Rollune replaces the at-the-table parts: rolling, quick character stats, presets and sound, in one offline app.

Does D&D Beyond have a soundboard?

No. D&D Beyond focuses on rules, characters, dice and campaigns. For ambience and effects you need a separate tool, or Rollune, which has a soundboard built in.

Can I use Rollune for games other than D&D?

Yes. Rollune's dice roller handles any polyhedral dice and custom sizes, so it works for Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer and homebrew. D&D Beyond is dedicated to D&D.

Can I use both apps together?

Yes. A common setup is D&D Beyond for character builds and rules lookups, and Rollune on the table for fast rolls with advantage, saved presets and background ambience.
