How to use a soundboard at the table
Good game audio is mostly ambience, the quiet bed that tells players where they are, with a few well-timed effects on top. Music is optional: many GMs use it only for travel, big reveals or combat. A simple way to run it:
- Before the scene, pick one or two layers that describe the place: forest and river for a wilderness trail, campfire and cicadas for a night camp.
- Keep it low. Ambience should sit under the conversation. If players have to raise their voices, turn the master down.
- Punctuate, don't narrate. Use effects for surprise and payoff: the door that creaks open, the growl in the dark, the coin purse landing on the bar.
- Change the layers when the place changes to signal a new scene without a word.

What's in the free sound set
| Type | Sounds | Great for |
|---|---|---|
| Ambient | Rain, Wind, Forest, River, Campfire, Cicadas | Travel, camps, storms, summer nights, wilderness |
| Music | Timeless Path (fantasy loop) | Exploration, overland travel, town scenes |
| Effects | Applause, Lock Up, Door, Footstep, Monster, Swing, Coin, Sword | Taverns, dungeons, ambushes, combat, treasure |
Effects with several recordings, like footsteps, monster growls and sword sounds, play a random variation each time, just like in the app, so repeated hits don't sound robotic.
Scene recipes
- Storm on the road: Rain 80% + Wind 50%, Footstep for approaching strangers.
- Night camp: Campfire 70% + Cicadas 40% + Forest 30%, Monster at low volume for a distant howl.
- River crossing: River 80% + Forest 40%, then Swing and Sword when the bandits strike.
- The vault: no ambience at all, then Lock Up, Door and a slow Coin, because silence builds tension.

This page is a preview of the soundboard inside the Rollune app. In the app, audio keeps playing in the background, theme packs add soundtracks and effects matched to each setting, and the same screen holds your dice roller and characters. There is even a dedicated Soundboard interface mode for GMs who only want the audio controls.
