What is a d10?
A d10 is a ten-sided pentagonal trapezohedron, usually numbered 0 to 9 where the 0 counts as 10. It averages 5.5. Many sets include a second d10 marked in tens (00, 10, 20…) for rolling percentiles.
Where d10s are used
- D&D 5e: Fire Bolt cantrip (scaling to 4d10 at level 17), heavy crossbow, glaive, halberd and pike, plus fighter, paladin and ranger hit dice.
- Dice-pool games: Vampire: The Masquerade and other Storyteller games roll pools of d10s and count results of 6 or higher as successes.
- Percentile rolls: two d10s (tens and units) make a d100. Use the d100 roller to do it in one step.
D10 odds
Each face has a 10% chance. On a pool of five d10s, the chance that at least one die shows 10 is about 41%, and you can expect 2.5 dice at 6 or higher. Add several d10s here to roll a pool at once and read each die in the result.
Fire Bolt scaling
Fire Bolt deals 1d10 at level 1, 2d10 at level 5, 3d10 at level 11 and 4d10 at level 17, with averages of 5.5, 11, 16.5 and 22. In Rollune you can save each version as a preset.
